Ziggy loves his "flower pillow"

... there are just a million ways to relax in a flower pillow!...

This is the "birdie" - one of Ziggy's favorite toys. This is the first time he has seen the birdie since before his blood clot because I had it put away and forgot to get it out until now. It makes a little jingle sound when it moves. But he didn't play with it like he used to. He used to stomp on it with his hind legs if you said "stomp the birdie." But he didn't stomp on his birdie today.
He appears to be doing good. He wants to go outside every morning for an hour. He is supervised now with me outside with him too, but he pretty much goes wherever he wants. He went on his log and scratched with his good paw all by himself today to try to sharpen his claws. I noticed they are getting longer. I haven't seen them that long before, he hasn't went so long without scratching but if he's starting to scratch a little now, then I might not need to trim them. I did trim the claws on the dead paw a while back because I noticed they would catch on things when he walked. Now that doesn't happen and of course they haven't grown.
Look how pretty he is smiling for the camera~!

...Out of all the grass outside, Zig ate a few blades from a little grass growing out of a crack in the sidewalk!
Later, he also ate a few blades from bigger grass...

He never eats other plants outside, only grass. He smells it real good before he chews on some. He also likes "wheatgrass" growing inside in little pots - in the wintertime mostly. You start one pot when the other is about ready to eat. Then in about a week when the good pot grass starts to fall over or die then the other pot is ready.
He always liked to go under the car where its shady and cool...

The picture below was taken right before a train came. (His bandage was starting to unravel) He was listening to the train as it was approaching.. Then afterwards he ran real fast all the way into the house. The train sounds loudest right as the engine approaches and thats the worst part of it.

... he is mastering the art of relaxation!

You can see that the white fur on his left foreleg is starting to grow back where he was shaved over a month ago. His hind leg fur seems like it is taking longer to grow in.

... he found a place to go to the bathroom where there was a lot of loose dirt and just a little plants. He did a good job digging a hole.

He ran real fast all around his play area. But he was so fast that I didn't get the picture where he was hopping over the logs in the middle! By the time the camera was finished with the first picture he was already on the right side and I took the 2nd picture.

This is what the inner leg looks like now. The black line is like a scab now where the good skin meets the dead skin. The fur on the good skin must have come out, because he is bare here. I don't know if its because its covered up most of the time with the bandage and rubs against it, or exactly why. There was just a small spot where it started to come out a week or two ago but now the bare area is larger. On the other side he doesn't have a big bare area, but a small one, about the same as it has been.
Before bandaging back up I rinse with antiseptic wash. Picture was taken right after wash so fur might still look wet. Then I use a clean gauze pad and then the white first aid tape that you see in the pictures. It is stretchy.

.. this is how he has to scratch his ear now, he has to fall down to do it, because he can't stand on 2 left legs and scratch with his right leg! He's learning to just lay down to begin with if he wants to scratch instead of falling over halfway into scratching!
He appears to be doing really well and every day is a very good day for The Zig!
He loves to smell the air outside...

Zig's collar looks a lot looser than it used to be.. Its not adjustable but its stretchy. I had it sewed to not adjust because it kept coming out. I didn't fix it yet or get him a new one since he only wears it about an hour a day. It has his id information inside it. Also the front of his neck was shaved and the fur is just starting to grow back and fill in again.. He is a few pounds lighter than he used to be. Most of his life he was at least 10 lbs, including last summer. Over the winter he lost some weight.. Last Sept he weighed 10 or 10.2 lbs... in Feb he was 9.6lbs and in May 8.8 or 9lbs... this is the last weight I have for him. When he came home from the hospital in June I believe he was somewhere around 7 lbs. I first weighed him 6 days later and he weighed 7.4 lbs. He is currently maintaining 8 lbs.

He is smelling the air deciding whether to go outside and if so, in what direction! He could go straight up the stairs into the back yard or he could go left and down the sidewalk to the driveway or around the house
