"looking out at the snow"

with a dirty bandage, after having gone outside.

"sleeping on the ledge above the radiator"
(new favorite spot for Ziggy this past month)
NOTES: I haven't been taking as many pictures of Ziggy recently (been too busy!) but he is doing wonderful!! He is exactly the cat he was before he got the blood clot in June (if not better! - because he seems to eat a lot more now than he did in the weeks prior to when he got the bloodclot - he has been maintaining approx 8 lbs 5 ounces for many months now) He does everything he used to, and very well! He loves the Christmas tree (real one) - he likes hiding under it on the tree skirt, the branches come down real close to the floor. He played with and stomped on his birdie today (his old yellow toy). He has a routine in the mornings where he pokes me with his "hook" to try to wake me up- the "hook" is his dead paw which is in the shape of a hook. He learned to use his hook for balancing sometimes. He also uses it to play sometimes like to push his ping-pong ball around the floor, etc. A small piece of dead skin from the upper part of it (his dead leg) fell off yesterday when I changed his bandage. Actually I helped it to come off, it was attached by some fur which I cut away (I had thought this part would have fallen off a few months ago but it finally did yesterday) It was dry, brittle and crumbly. The rest still looks the same. I only change the bandage every 3 or 4 days, basically whenever it gets dirty on the outside. It slips right off and never sticks to his skin as it used to some months ago.
He still wants to go outside every day except now he comes back inside again on his own, usually after only 10 or 15 minutes. Some days we skip like if its extra cold outside. He likes sleeping in this room while I'm using the computer, on his cat ledge that Phil made after we moved here. It is nice and warm there as the heat rises up from the radiator beneath. Every day (since he came home from the hospital in June) I have been giving him special vitamins and supplments that are known to be good for the heart. They include l-carnitine, taurine, coQ10, omega-3s (salmon oil and codliver oil), Vitamin E, nutritional yeast flakes (similar to brewers yeast) and a few others. I mix them in a little baby food and give it twice a day. He also eats on his own many different things- dry cat food, variety of canned cat food and other special treats now and then. Phil made a roast the other day and Ziggys loves it- one of his favorite special treats. He also likes to eat a spoonful of my yogurt now and then. He eats a variety of foods and also loves canned tuna (I try to rinse and strain the juice out if I buy the kind with sodium added)
It is an extra special gift having Ziggy with us this holiday season, since he was not supposed to have lived this long at all! In fact he is not just living but he plays and enjoys every day and is living a wonderful (spoiled) cat life!! He has even been "talking" to us a little in the past few days - (unusual for Ziggy who is usually a very quiet cat, but his brother Clao constantly talked when he was still with us and before he got ill!) As one of his guestbook entries says: LONG LIVE the ZIG!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!

Ziggy wants his last photos of 2003 to be happy ones...

"Cat In Heaven"One day, a cat dies of natural causes and goes to heaven, where he meets the Lord. The Lord says to the cat, "You lived a good life, and if there is any way I can make your stay in heaven more comfortable, please let me know." The cat thinks for a moment and says, "Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor." The Lord stops the cat and says, "Say no more," and a wonderful, fluffy pillow appears. A few days later, six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident, and all of them go to heaven. Again, the Lord is there to greet them with the same offer. The mice answer, "All our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. Running, running, running; we're tired of running. Do you think we could have roller skates so that we don't have to run anymore?" The Lord says, "Say no more" and fits each mouse with beautiful new roller skates. About a week later, the Lord stops by to see the cat and finds him snoozing on the pillow. The Lord gently wakes the cat and asks him, "How are things since you got here?" The cat stretches and yawns, then replies, "It is wonderful here. Better than I could have ever expected. And those 'Meals On Wheels' you've been sending by are the best!" |
